What Were You Thinking?!?

That was the exact question I got from my contractor when he saw the color I was happily rolling onto my front door.  I know the color choice may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I love the punch it gives to the front of our straight-forward, little rancher.

The Evolution of Our Front Door

Here is how it looked when we bought the house...

Here is how it looked after we put on a new door and new door hardware {aka - still in need of door paint, caulk, trim paint and new lights}...

And, here is how it looks freshly caulked and painted...

I know we could use some prettier house numbers, a colorful door mat, and don't even get me started on our pitiful {lack of} landscaping...but let's just take a minute to remember what our house used to look like.  Anything is better than the hot mess that it was!!

And honestly, I cannot get over how our front door looks when it's opened up into our living room.  I am loving my "what were you thinking" decision!

What do you think?  Too much?  Would you go more subdued?

PS-The barn door I discussed in this post is installed!!!  All I need to do is paint it and add a handle.  I can't wait to share it with you!

  3. I probably would have wondered what you were thinking too... but it looks awesome! I love it with the beige exterior paint!

  4. I happen to love it! I want to do the same with my front door but I don't feel like fighting the association if they don't like it.

  6. I love it!! Our contractors said the same thing when I had them paint my front door bright yellow in October. People are too afraid of pops of color.

  7. Thank you so much, AJ! I agree...sometimes color scares people too much. At the end of the day, it's the cheapest thing to change if you don't like it!

  8. How did I miss this!? I had to search your blog for "front door" after seeing it in the Planting Party post. I LOVE it. I just picked up a sample of Glidden's "Peacock" for our front door - not sure hubs will go for it haha. What paint color is your door?

    1. I'm so sorry I didn't answer you sooner! I don't know how I didn't get back to you already, but the color I used was Behr's Tropical Waters. Hope that helps! :)
