The Start of a House Tour.

I’m a very bad blogger.  I’m awful at posting regularly and I feel terrible about it.  I even managed to let my very first blogiversary pass by without positing!!  Boooooo me.  So since I’m almost a month late on that major milestone, I decided I’d try and make it up to all of you by finally starting a proper house tour of our casa.  I’ve shown some rooms here and there, and you’ve probably seen all the spaces while I was posting about projects and what not {because let's be serious...our house isn't that big}, but I just won’t be satisfied until I can add a “House Tour” tab to my blog. ;)

Plus, I really like taking a step back and seeing how far our little ranch has come in a year.  Sometimes you can get caught up in how much more you want to do, and easily forget how far you’ve already come.

Here’s a quick refresher on how things went down for us.  We closed on our home in August 2011, the day before Hurricane Irene hit.  We took out a rehab loan to purchase our house so we could buy and renovate the main floor.  We started working on painting and cleaning up the exterior in August and the interior demo began the last couple days of September 2011.  That is also when I started this lil' blog.  Our renovations took a couple months {although it felt like years}, and we were finally able to move into our home on Christmas Eve 2011.

I figure I’ll start our home's tour in the “great” room of our house.  This space used to have a defined entry/hallway, living/dining room combo and kitchen.  We quickly changed that closed-off space to make it more "us".  So without further delay, here are entirely too many pictures of one area in our home.

So what do you say...do my bagillion pictures of the same-space-from-every-angle-possible make up for my sporadic posting schedule?!?!  I'm praying the answer to that is yes, and in return I will give you a totally non-creepy Internet hug and hopefully post more house tour pictures before Thanksgiving rolls around. ;)  Kidding!!  {Sort of.}

  1. I'm not a hugger but I'm still going to say yes, this post makes up for lack of consistency. :P

I love your house. Seriously. You have a nice, clean, put together style. I'd totally move in. Look out.

  3. How is it possible that I haven't seen before photos before?? I can't believe what you all have done! Amazing reno! You all have done way more in a year that we've done in 3, haha!

I'm a pretty inconsistent blogger, but I just try to remind myself that I write my blog for me. The last thing I want is for it to turn into a source of guilt or stress, so I post when I can and am happy with that.

    1. Probably because I'm a terrible blogger and never put up before and afters on a separate page haha. I'm determined to get around to it sometime soon. ;)

Exactly!! That's totally how I feel about it.

  15. I'm not good at regularly posting either, so don't worry about it a BIT! Too bad we don't blog for a living...right?? Seriously though, your house is beautiful. I love reading home reno blogs because I love this stuff and I love seeing people's styles and appreciating the differences between us, but your style is literally what I hope our house looks like after its finished. I literally love every bit of it :).

  16. Love the makeovers. Your color choices are so pretty and calming, it must be nice to come home to that! I'm still trying to make over our house from the previous homeowner's color choices (ugly!!!) and it's taking a lot of time and money!

    1. Thank you, Megan! It definitely feels good to come home to something that is "us". I'll never forget the difference when we finally got the grey up on the walls and the yellow walls AND carpet was gone. It was like a breath of fresh air in the house!

  17. You guys have done so much, and it looks SOOOOO amazing!!! I bet if the old owners could see the house now they'd be kicking themselves for not updating it!

    1. Thank you so much, Whitney! I'd be curious to see what the owner's would say. We bought it from a bunch of kids who were selling it for their father. When they heard we wanted it for a rehab house, they literally asked us what there was to redo. I almost died.

  21. Love the transformation! The white just opens everything up and those turquoise accents just makes it feel calm and relaxing. Question about the hallway; Is that a stencil job or wall paper?

    1. Thanks so much, Jamie!! The hallway is actually a stencil I did. You can see my post about it here:

  30. Hi Gabbi, I stumbled on your blog and, sporadic or not, love it. I also have a retro ranch that we are taking from the 60's to today...aarrgghh!! Doing it on your own is tough, and long, and tough!! lol

A few things...love your style (the barn door...aahhh HELLO!!), colors (that touch of blue in the kitchen has such an impact!!), ability to repurpose (painting cupboards). Your budget friendly ability to achieve beauty with your own sweat equity is inspiring to all of us doing it on our own!!

  31. Just found your blog while searching for pics of Vittoria Brick Mosaic (from Floor & Decor) for showers. Your home is gorgeous! I'm considering the bluish/green/white glass subway/brick style mosaic you referenced some time ago and wondering if you, in fact, used it and how you like it? ~ Mandy

    1. Hi Mandy! I actually didn't end up using it (would have used it as an accent in the kitchen), but not for any reason except that we just went in another design direction. I ordered a sample, and it was beautiful! Good luck with your decision! :)

  41. Beautiful transformation Gabbi! Love everything you did, especially the kitchen! I will be closing on 60's hi-ranch next week, and I stumbled upon your blog when searching for design ideas for an open concept living room, dining room and kitchen. I plan to take down a wall to achieve this. I have a load bearing wall and will need to keep one corner/column. Is the column by your island a result of a load bearing wall? Also one more question ... I too have the red oak floors and plan on staining when I refinish them. I love the Jacobean stain you used. How does it hold up? Do you see dust and markings more so than you did with the red oak? Thanks much, and again, great job! Lisa
