So I took the easy route and grabbed some canvases, brushes and paint from the basement and got to work.
I used my favorite colors {blue-greens and greys, obviously}, and mixed in some water as I went along. It helped me to blend the colors and achieve the look I was going for.
Like my ombre art, I used vinyl letters to put a simple phrase on the piece that is a wonderful reminder to read every day...have faith.

And so you can see where some of my latest projects have landed {striped curtains, gold mirror, DIY shelves, wintery mantle}, here is how our living/dining room has looked since we de-Christmas-ified after the holidays. I love how cozy it's been, but I certainly can't wait to bring back our other curtains and some pops of yellow for the spring!
Do any of you switch out your curtains for the different seasons? Am I the only weirdo? My mom promises me that it used to be a "thing" back in the day. ;)
I love that art, it came out amazing! I can't say that I do switch out curtains for the seasons :). Mainly because curtains are expensive and I don't have any extras...in fact I have a whole bunch of rooms without any curtains at all LOL. Baby steps!
ReplyDeleteThanks Lyndsay!! They are so darn expensive, aren't they? If it wasn't making our own, we definitely wouldn't be switching anything!! HA! ;)
Deletelol i love that switching out curtains used to be a "thing" you must be bringing style back girl!
ReplyDeleteHaha, thanks! That, or I'm super old fashioned. ;)
DeleteUnfortunately I'm with Lyndsay! I need to buck up and buy some already!! Your new art looks awesome on that wall. I love your house in general....beautimus!
ReplyDeleteI have faith that you could make some really awesome ones! Go buy some awesome fabric and give it a try! :) Aw, thanks so much, Whitney! :)
DeleteYour homemade art is so pretty! I love it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I don't even have curtains up, so I definitely don't want to start thinking about switching them out for the seasons haha.
Thanks so much, Ashley! :)
DeleteYour canvases turned out great! I really like how you added the words.
ReplyDeleteI can't say that we switch out curtains around here...we actually don't have any other than the ones in the nursery! My husband is odd and hates curtains, lol.
Thank you, Kelly!! I never knew how much I liked curtains until I got this house...then I realized it'd feel naked without them haha.
DeleteTurned out awesome!
ReplyDelete& we are lacking in the curtain department, so we don't switch out, but I love the idea! My mom switches curtains a lot, never really thought about it though.
Thanks Melanie!! I honestly never thought about it, until the cooler months rolled around, and it just didn't "fit" with things. I'm such a weirdo hehe.
DeleteThey turned out so serene. Love the message :) xo Kristin
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristin! I do too...it's a nice reminder! :)
DeleteI'm trying to remember if I've even OWNED curtains before this last house. Which, by the way, are still hanging in the master because the movers didn't take them and I was too tired and cranky. You know I love this art too, right? You're good at stuff!
ReplyDeleteUGH...seriously, those movers!! I can't believe how ridiculous they were. How do people like that stay in business?!?! This is the first place that I owned curtains. I never gave them a single thought before haha. And thanks friend! ;)
DeleteHmmm...maybe if I could finally pick out curtains for all our rooms, then I could think about changing them out for the seasons! But, kudos to you for doing it! Love the whole room, and the colors of the canvas art!
ReplyDeleteHehe...thanks, Erin! :)
DeleteThe art is really cute and the message is great! I love that you are ambitious enough to switch out your curtains for the seasons!! I barely have enough energy to select and make them the first time around... haha.
ReplyDeleteThanks Christine!! I guess it's because the pattern on our one set seems so spring/summery to me. I just am not a fan of them being up all year round. I get it's just one of my "things" haha.
DeleteOoo, very cute. I have enough trouble finding 1 set of curtains I like. There are no seasonal changes around here. Love your stripes!!
ReplyDeleteThanks Michelle! :)
DeleteJust discovered your blog!
ReplyDeleteThese are so cool! I remember when my mom used to change our curtains for the summer. I guess the only I change make is drawing the curtains VS not. I love the idea though! Maybe when I have more space ...
Sarah
Thank you so much, Sarah!! I'm so glad you stopped by! :)
DeleteI love the idea of changing out curtains!! I'm not sure if I'd actually do it, but I love the thought!! You are so creative...maybe you should do an etsy store!
ReplyDeleteAw, thanks Katie! I'm not sure people would buy anything from me...but thanks for the vote of confidence! :)
DeleteI change my art out seasonally. It's something my mother always did and a habit I have applied to my own home. I can't look at something wintery in the summer and vice versa. I have gone through a few rounds of curtains but I think that is mostly because I was never happy. Love your blog - I came across it while I was planning on buying a Macy's sofa and wanted to find pictures of it in a room before I made my decisions. One of your blog posts mentioned the Elliot Sectional and I have checked your posts out ever since.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you...if it's winter, I have trouble looking at summery settings, and vice versa. I'm glad I'm not the only one haha. I'm so happy you came across my blog and stuck around!! Puts a big smile on my face! :)
DeleteI think your art is so pretty, so why stop making them? I need to save up funds so that I can replace the curtains in my family room, they are red, and really depressing for this time of year. Your house always looks so lovely, and inviting.
ReplyDeleteAw, thank you so much, Kristel!! I really appreciate that! :) Good luck getting some new curtains. They can definitely help to change a room's mood!
DeleteLove your home. The colors are exactly what I want in my home. I like the pops of color with the neutrals. I am so glad you don't have slipcovered sofas. I like the look of them but not in my own home. I am already using the same colors in my bedroom as you have. I really like the color of the door and buffet. Can you tell me what brand and color you used? I have quite a few pieces that I am ready to paint but couldn't decide on a color until I saw that pretty color you used. As soon as I found your blog I HAD to sign up to get it in my inbox. Keep up the good work. Your home is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! The buffet is Behr's Aqua Spray and our front door is Behr's Teal Ice. I hope that helps! I'm so glad you found my blog, thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteI love the artwork! I'm going to try that this weekend for sure. But I wanted to say how much I LOVE LOVE LOVE that room - my favorite colors too! I'm in the process of doing my bedroom in those colors right now. I too make my curtains and change them often but not seasonally however I do remember my mom doing that and I think when I first got married I used to do that. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Marty!! :)
