I have been dying to share a project with you guys, and it's actually not even complete. We are maybe 1/3 of the way there, but it's just so pretty I couldn't help it. Like many of the other outdoor projects we've taken on, my parents helped BIG TIME with this one. Let's just say, they know how to clear out an overgrown jungle like it's nobody's business. We first learned of their capabilities when we bought the house...eeek!
This time we aimed those awesome taming skills at our unkempt jungle surrounding our corner lot. I forgot to take "before" pictures of all the whole jungle, so I here are a few of the untouched areas. Just imagine this surrounding our whole property.
We knew our property line was somewhere in the the middle of that whole mess...we just didn't know how much of it was ours. We could never find the middle marker, but we finally came across it on my parent's last visit. And it turns out, most of this hilly disaster was ours. Yay...we had more land than we thought, but holy moly, did we have our work cut out for us. :-/
Thankfully, my parents have more energy than any twenty-something I know, and they tackled that hill and all the poison ivy it could offer up! After a few days, we could see dirt...and a couple cute rock walls, and some ivy ground cover.
And would they stop there?! Of course not! We decided this would be a good idea...
Holy mulch pile!! The next morning, we spent the first half of the day spreading this over the newly cleared areas. The difference fresh mulch makes is amazing...plus, we are hoping it'll keep some of those weeds from popping back up at full speed.
We still have a heck of a ways to go, but the difference in our yard from where we started is incredible! And the amazing memories we have of transforming our home with our family can't be beat. :)
Anyone else take on a unruly landscape lately?!
Looks great! I love fresh mulch. I just put some on my flower beds after making a new one. Some day I will blog about it. I wish had some of your rocks!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Megan! I do too. Aw, I wish I could send some your way. We definitely have a ton!! :)
DeleteThis is awesome! Love your yard and mulch always makes such a huge difference. We buy the black too. Love it!
ReplyDeleteThanks Julia!! We love how the black mulch looks...such great contrast. :)
DeleteWow, it looks great! How fun to uncover new parts of your lot! :) Very lucky to have your parents help!
ReplyDeleteI've been trying to clear out our yard since April. Imagine what you showed here but on 1/3 of an acre. We have a huge lot that is covered in ivy and brush and saplings. I've been taken out with poison ivy twice. It's awwwwful. I haven't blogged recently because this is all I've been doing and progress is .... very slow. Feel free to send your parents, haha ;) I'll get it looking as great as yours eventually!!!
Yea, we really are so very lucky to have their help! I don't think we could do it without them.
DeleteThat's crazyyyy! I can't imagine having to clear that much out. And ugh, poison ivy is the worst!!! Good luck with your progress...remember, slow and steady wins the race. ;) I wish I could send them your way!!
Oh my goodness! How nice; I know how much work that is! Are they free to come help us? lol.
ReplyDeleteHahaha...I'll send them along, Kelly! ;)
DeleteI just found your blog recently and just love it. The transformation in your house to a home is amazing and I'm enjoying watching the progress. Thanks for sharing with us (and isn't it amazing the difference some mulch can make!) :-)

DeleteParents are awesome!! It's so nice having a wooded back yard - I know you guys must find it so peaceful and relaxing out there! And a great spot to raise kids ;-)
ReplyDeleteThanks Cara! We definitely adore our yard...something we never thought we'd say when we first saw it! ;) And yea, parents totally rock!
DeletePS-love your new picture...did you change it recently?!
It looks so clean! Nothing beats a yard that you can actually enjoy. I do have to say though, that was one of the things I liked about NJ, all the nice full trees, don't have that down here :(.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely...I 100% agree, Kristel! :) Well if you guys ever move up here, you get to enjoy it too!! ;)
DeleteThat's alotta mulch!
ReplyDeleteLooks great!
Oh yea...I died when they delivered it haha! Thank you, John! :)
DeleteWe refer to our new house as "the jungle" so we have a pretty unruly place to deal with in a few days!
ReplyDeleteYour yard is shaping up!
Yes, I love that we both have jungles to deal with! ;)
DeleteWow! What a difference! It is looking great. I love the dark mulch. xo Kristin
ReplyDeleteThanks Kristin! We do too...such a nice contrast! :)
DeleteWow, it looks great!! We attempted to mulch this weekend, but Home Depot was SOLD OUT. What?! So they're supposed to call us when it comes in and then we can finally look civilized again. (ha. hahaha) Your yard looks so great! Thank goodness for parents and their unlimited energy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Cindy!! I can't believe they were sold out...I've never heard such a thing! Seriously...thank gosh for amazing parents!! Good luck when yours finally arrives!! :)
DeleteIt looks great! What a difference!! Thank goodness for helpful parents!
ReplyDeleteThanks buddy! Yea, seriously...they are saviors! :)
DeleteI clicked over to the first link and all I could think with all that green was just how much poison ivy I would have on me afterwards. Hopefully, no one is itching after all that work! That mulch looks amazing. It must be great to sit on the porch and admire it.
ReplyDeleteSurprisingly, there were only a few very small patches of poison ivy to be seen on people. I was SHOCKED, but very thankful for that! It really does make for a great view from our back windows and porch. Thanks Anne! :)
DeleteSo. much. mulch. I'm exhausted just looking at it! You guys really worked your butts off!
ReplyDeleteYea, it really was a ton of it! We even had some left over that we gave to our neighbors for their house.
Deletelookin good! it's a ton of work, but so worth it! how nice of the parents to help too :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Trina!! Yea, they are amazing people! :)
DeleteIt looks to clean and tidy now!! And i agree about the mulch!! Good work lady, hope your 4th was great!!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, Whitney! It was good...hope yours was too! :)
Deletei love the dark mulch! Can't wait to get ours looking like something!
ReplyDeleteWe do too...it makes such a difference in the appearance of things! Good luck with your lawn, and thanks for stopping by! :)
DeleteLookin' good! Can your parents come over and help me?
ReplyDeleteWe just bought a house with 26 acres and have no idea what we're going to do with it all. But boyfriend spends forever mowing the front and areas around the house we do use. We also just made ourselves a little garden area and that took a solid two weeks of getting the soil ready after the property has been vacant for years. We've also got a wind break upgrade to contend with and we definitely want to add more trees, but that will have to wait till next year since snow in Montana starts fairly early.
Hahaha...sure, I'll send them right over! ;)
DeleteWowza, that's a crazy amount of land you have! I bet it's gorgeous. I can't even imagine how different the seasons are in Montana...so intriguing! :)
