Making A Statement With Hardware.

Sometimes things just don't play out like you thought they would.  I was mid-makeover on my dresser-turned-console, and was convinced that I had to paint the drawer detail gold, because it'd pop and be fabulous, and I'd love it until the day I died.

Then I painstakingly taped off the drawers so I could spray paint the detail gold.

And guess what?  I still loved it!

As the drawers dried in garage, I thought I was a genius!!  I couldn't wait to get the drawers upstairs and in place.

And then I actually put the drawers in place...eeek.  Once the first one went in, I knew I made a terrible mistake painting the detail.  I hated how it looked.

I begged and pleaded with myself, with my Insta-friends and even my hubby to make myself like it.  I tried to sit with the piece for a few days, I even rubbed and buffed the old hardware to see if adding that would make a difference.

Sadly, it did not.  I couldn't stand it.  {Insert tiny violin playing pity music here.}  At that point, I really wanted to throw myself on the ground and act out a toddler-tantrum.  Instead, I went into the basement, found my latex primer, and started covering up the gold.

After primer...

After going back to blue...

The drawer fronts looked SO much better after I lost the gold, but they still weren't making the statement I hoped for. They needed something to set them off and finish the look.  Luckily, I came across some amazing hardware that saved the day makeover.

Have you guys ever checked out Nest Studio's hardware?!?!  If not, you MUST.  Every single product is beyond fabulous.  Each piece of hardware is like a work of art in itself.  I had trouble narrowing down my choices, but after much debate, I settled on the solid brass faceted knob.

The size, color and shape of the knob was perfect for the dresser.  It was just what I was looking for!  They totally make the piece, don't you think?

Moreee Painted Furniture...

This is finally a "sort of" reveal post of the mid-century modern bedroom furniture we Craiglisted a couple months ago.  I mentioned this deal a bagillion times already...but for those of you new to the program...the set was $200, and included a long dresser, armoire and two nightstands.  Since the hubby and I are lucky enough to have these fab closets, we knew we wouldn't need the long dresser in our bedroom.  That piece now serves as a console table in our living room.  The remaining three pieces received some TLC and are finally at home in our bedroom.

The pieces started out looking like this...amazing lines, but a little rough around the edges...

Then we busted out some awesome enamel primer...

And then we painted the armoire a green/blue shade, a touch lighter than our accent wall...

And the nightstands were painted a bright white...

Here is the armoire in our bedroom with it's new satin nickel hardware...

And here is a sneak peak of the inside...{the bottom two drawers aren't being used}...

Here is a close-up of one of the nightstands...

And these pieces aren't quite done yet.  Since purchasing this obsession of mine, I have decided to switch up the hardware on the pieces, and possiblyyyyy paint the legs in a metallic finish.

For some reason, the satin nickel just isn't doing it for me on the repainted furniture.  I think an aged brass or bronze look would finish them off perfectly.  So I hopped on eBay and found the options below.

This one would serve as the pulls {they do not read so yellow in real life...they are closer to the color of the mirror}...

And this would serve as the knobs....

I can't wait until they arrive at the house so I can see how they look.  The best part is...if I don't like them as much as my first choice, I'll just put the satin nickel back on!  I'm shocked that I have been combining all sorts of metal finishes in my house, but it really is giving me the eclectic look that I adore.  Things don't have to "match"....they just need to flow.  {Look Mom, I'm growing up hehe.}

Do any of you like to mix metals....or do you prefer a more uniform look???

Using What You've Got

In my sunburst mirror post, you caught a glimpse of the new console that now lives behind our sofa.  Its actually a dresser from a mid-century modern bedroom set that I purchased on Craigslist for $200.  Yup, that's right.  I was able to find a beautiful, dovetailed set {dresser, armoire and two nightstands} for that price.  Yayyyy!

Anywho...since the hubby and I have these awesome closets that fit most of our belongings, we knew we wouldn't need both the dresser and armoire in our bedroom.  The armoire worked much better for our layout, so the dresser needed to find a new place to hang out.  Lucky for me, I knew just the spot for it!

I wanted to put a console table behind our sofa, and since we didn't have the budget for one, this dresser was the perfect substitute to serve as a perfect placeholder.  Its a bit deeper than I wanted it to be, but hey, beggers can't be choosers!

Unfortunately, I deleted the before picture of this piece, but I do have a before picture of the armoire from the same set.  Hopefully this will give you an idea of what the dresser looked like before...

I love the lines of the piece, but the color and hardware just weren't the look I was going for.  So after the usual sanding, priming and painting methods we used on all of our other Craigslisted furniture {here, here and here}, our new console table looks like this...

No, it's not painted white.  It's {wait for it}....a very pale aqua!  Anyone surprised?  Nope...I didn't think so haha.  And noooo, it is not the same color as the buffet.  The buffet is actually a much brighter aqua.  This is more pale and subdued.  They coordinate, but are not the same.

I wish I could take better pictures and show you the real color of the piece...but just trust me.  It's very pretty!

Here is a picture at night...so the lighting is even worse.  It's hard to get a straight-on shot of this piece because it's so long and I can't back away from it very much.

Of course Perny needed to try and get in a picture...

 Let's try that again, without the cat in the way!  {You can see it's a bit more blue in this picture...}

Here is a close-up of the hardware I chose for doors.  I love that it looks like it was original to the piece.

And the other hardware I chose for the drawers...

And here is a view from a previous post, showing how the console looks in the whole room...

I have been on the hunt for lamps to set on the console, and the chevron fabric laying on there will most likely become a runner for the top of it.

Piece by piece, our home is coming together! :)
