Our Master Bedroom - The Billionth Reveal.

Ohhhhh, our master bedroom.  It's the room in our home that has never felt quite right to me.  I've painted (and re-painted...and re-painted again), stenciled, swapped out furniture (twice), rearranged the placement multiple times and made poor hubby mount and un-mount our TV too many times.  Every time I thought I'd be "done", I just felt unsettled.  And that is NOT a feeling you want for the space you are supposed to unwind in every night.  Finally, after "refreshing" it for probably almost two years, I'm finally feeling content.  And before the feeling fades, I figured I should get some pictures posted to show the "reveal".

There are a few things that help "make" the room for me...

1) My gloss-on-matte stenciled wall now competes with our hallway for my favorite stencil project, ever.  I love the statement made by the subtle pattern.  You can purchase the stencil from Sarah's Etsy shop here.

2) My fabulous pillows!!  If you are searching for a great pillow source, you have to check out Priscilla's Etsy shop, MotifPillows.  She has the best stuff!  Her radiant orchid and animal print covers worked so well with the older aqua pillows I found at Target.

3) The stunning Lamps Plus sconces that now flank our bed.  I'm no stranger to Lamps Plus.  I purchased a few items for our home from their website when we completed the major reno of our first level.  In fact, one of the most common email questions I receive is where to find our master bedroom ceiling fan/light combo.  (And in case you are now wondering, it's the 52" Casa Optima White Flower Ceiling Fan.)

Lamps Plus has the most amazing selection to look through.  I can (and have) spent hours browsing their options.  And the minute I laid eyes on our brass beauties, I knew they would be perfect for our room.  They have me smitten!

4) Our Rugs USA Windsor Overdyed Grove Rug in violet.  I already knew I had a soft spot for this rug.  Quite some time ago, I purchased the turquoise version to for our living room.  It created the perfect pop of color in that space, and when I realized I wanted to make a similar statement in our bedroom, I knew where to look.  I headed back to the RugsUSA site to find a pinky-purple version of the overdyed rug.  It's like it was made for our space!

Now, fingers crossed this will be the last "reveal" for quite some time. ;)

The Dark Side.

This post isn't nearly as ominous as the title sounds.  I'm simply referring to the fact that I painted our master bedroom...again.  Third times the charm, right? ;)

The first time we painted the room, I chose a gray that read not-gray-at-all on our walls.  I loved the color, but it just wasn't what I wanted for our room.

After living with it for a while, I decided I needed to go more gray...and I did.

I liked that color a lot, and then I even rearranged and painted again.

After all that, I liked our room, but I didn't love it.  I wanted to love it.  And apparently, step #1 in loving our room was switching up our nightstands.  Our old ones were great, but looked too small next to our king-sized bed.  I fixed that situation by making over some Craigslist finds.

Step #2 was choosing a new gray for our walls.  I had a major itch to go dark in our bedroom.  I thought it'd really up the cozy factor and give the space that extra something it had been missing.  I headed to Home Depot and brought home a bunch of swatches.  Once the swatches were home and against the wall in our room, I easily narrowed things down to my top three.  Those colors were then taped to our bedroom wall for a few days.  It was obvious to me which color was my favorite {gut reaction based on undertones that showed up once the swatch went up on our wall}, but I was scared to pull the trigger. I never painted any wall that dark before.

Eventually I got sick of staring at the swatches and wanted to see results.  I headed to the store and bought a gallon of Martha Stewart's Zinc {made with Glidden Duo paint}.

I had hubby kindly remove our mounted TV, which I hated because of the positioning, thanks to some plumbing in the center of that wall.  I also patched up some holes with quick-dry spackle.

Then I cleared out furniture, pushed the remaining stuff to the middle of the room and started cutting in.

After all that fun, I got to rolling...and really saw things come to life.

The darker color took two coats to cover completely, but it was worth it.  I love how our white trim and light furniture pop against the bold walls.  I haven't even started to accessorize or put our room back together, but I couldn't wait to share our new wall color with you guys.  I didn't want to wait a few weeks until our room is "reveal" ready.  What can I say...lately, things have been taking me foreverrrr to finish. ;)

Painting...Round 2

A while ago, I gave you guys a sneak peak at our master.  Then I gave you a mini-update of it on Friday.  As you saw, it was...and still is, very far from masterful.

Since these pictures were taken, a couple things have changed {but unfortunately, no where near enough to call our room complete haaaaa}.

Since then, we:
- sold our old bedroom set on Craigslist and replaced it with a mid-century modern set we Craiglisted and painted
- bought a rug for the living room, but didn't like it there, so it now lives in the bedroom {happy accident}
- re-arranged our furniture layout to suit our new-to-us furniture better
- re-painted the whole room because the accent wall was now the wrong wall {thanks to our re-arranging} and I was SUPER antsy to get rid of the pretty-but-not-the-look-I-was-going-for tan-ish walls

I started the painting on a Friday night after finishing up our barn door, and began by covering our former accent wall in Glidden's Pebble Grey.  I finished that wall before I was forced to call it quits so my hubby could rest up for work the next day.  {Boooo busy season and working Saturdays!}

When I opened my eyes in the morning, I was pleased to see that I loveddddd the new color.  It was perfect.  Darker, a little more moody...and definitely made our white trim and dark floors pop.

I couldn't wait to get started on the rest of the room.  The hubs told me there was no way I could finish the whole room in one day.  HA!  That's what he thought.

With the assistance of my iPod blasting and some March Madness commentary, I had our bedroom one-coated by the time the afternoon rolled around.  {And thank the Good Lord, the room only needed one coat!}

I started by cutting all the grey walls in... 

...then I rolled them all.  Then I cut the green wall in, and rolled that.  {I was so focused at this point that I forgot to take progress pictures.}  So here are two finished pictures.  And when I say finished...I obviously mean the painting...not the disaster that we call our bedroom. ;)

I'm so pleased with the new color!  I know it isn't a dramatic change, but I'm in love!  {And don't mind the splotchy color.  The walls were still semi-wet when I took these pictures, but it dried nice and even!}

Also, I'm sure you caught a glimpse of our newly painted furniture in this post.  At that point everything was severely lacking some hardware.  Hopefully I'll get a post up to show you their finished-ness sometime soon! :)
